This Capitol dome is plated in 24 karat gold. The gold commemorates this State's Gold Rush days that begun in 1859.

Shamed to say it, but I don't think I have visited our capitol bldg in Sacto even though I live so nearby. Isn't that how it goes. I remember it got renovated, I think this is probably it.
